Career

Shayne Burgess began his international career in 1989 with the British Darts Organization . In 1992 he reached the quarter-finals of the British Open, a year later he was also in the quarter-finals of the Winmau World Masters. At the BDO World Championship in 1994 he failed in the first round with 0-3 against Steve McCollum . In the same year he switched to the competition association, the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC).

In the years 1995 to 1997 he failed at the World Cup in the group phase. At the PDC World Championship 1998 he failed only in the quarterfinals against the eventual world champion Phil Taylor with 0-4. In 2000 he failed against Dennis Priestley in the quarterfinals. In 1999 and 2000 he was unable to prevail in the final of the World Grand Prix against Phil Taylor and lost with 6–1. In 2000, however, he won the PDC Northern Ireland Open and the German Open. Between 2001 and 2003, the world championship was already over for Burgess in the round phase. At the UK Open 2013 he was again in the final against Phil Taylor, but failed again clearly with 18-8.

In 2007 he switched from the PDC back to the BDO, but could no longer achieve any great success there. He played his last tournament so far in October 2012 after being eliminated in the qualifying round of the BDO World Championship 2012.
