Mick McGowan (born February 1, 1973 in Duleek , County Meath ) is an Irish darts player . His nickname is "The Magnet".

Career

McGowan started playing darts at the age of 12. In 1989 he was Irish youth champion and was one of the top 20 Irish players in the following years.

In 2003 he played a 9-darter (177, 180, 144) at the Kilkenny All-Ireland Open Singles Championship as the third Irishman in the history of darts .

In 2006 he first attracted international attention by winning the Ireland Open Classic . That same year, he set a new darts record at a tournament in Scotland, scoring an average of 129.7 per shot in the final, which he beat Chris Mason 5-0, plus two 11s and three 12s -Darter played.

At the World Cup he lost to eventual finalist Phil Taylor 4-1 sets, with Taylor saying it was one of his hardest games; rightly so, since McGowan had defeated him a month earlier.
