Andrew "Andy" Hamilton (born March 16, 1967 in Stoke-on-Trent ) is an English darts player who is under contract with the BDO. His nickname is The Hammer , which is why his running-in music is “U can't touch this” by MC Hammer .
Career
Hamilton started playing darts at the age of 16. After the success did not materialize, he took a break of 20 years. He played his first TV match at the UK Open 2004 , where he lost to Eddie Lovely 5-2 in the first round and was eliminated.
In the following years he reached several semi-finals and finals of PDC major tournaments, but has never won any of them. In contrast, he achieved tournament victories in PDC Pro tournaments such as B. at the Antwerp Open 2008. At the PDC World Darts Championship 2012 he had the greatest success of his career so far: he was in the final against Adrian Lewis , who is also from Stoke-on-Trent . However, he was clearly defeated by Lewis 3: 7.
Hamilton's performance at the PDC World Darts Championship 2012 brought him a wildcard for the 15 game days of the Premier League Darts 2012 , in which he participated for the first time to compete with seven other top players. At the PDC World Darts Championship 2015 , Hamilton was surprisingly clear with 0: 4 sets in the round of 16 against the Scot Peter Wright.
Because of the same hometown, Hamilton initially trained with multiple world champion Phil Taylor . His current training partner is Colin Osborne .
After he lost his PDC Tourcard at the beginning of 2018, he switched to BDO. In a qualifying tournament he was able to qualify for the BDO World Darts Championship 2019 . There he lost to David Cameron in the preliminary round. The following year he made it to the last sixteen, in which he lost to eventual world champion Wayne Warren . Shortly afterwards, the UK Q-School won the Tour Card again for the next two years.
