The Grand Slam of Darts is a darts tournament organized by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC) since 2007. The venue is the Civic Hall in Wolverhampton .

It is the only major tournament in which players from the two competing darts associations PDC and BDO start together. It is played in legs.

After record world champion Phil Taylor prevailed in the first three years, Scott Waites succeeded for the first time in 2010 for a BDO player to win the tournament. In 2015 Michael van Gerwen won the Grand Slam of Darts for the first time, becoming the second player after Phil Taylor to win all major tournaments at least once.

The English team captain and three-time BDO world champion Martin Adams always canceled his participation in the Grand Slam of Darts, whereupon the PDC decided not to invite him anymore. However, in 2015 he was invited again and also competed for the first time. In the last sixteen he failed just 9:10 to Kim Huybrechts .

format

The Grand Slam of Darts takes place at the end of each year and lasts about a week. You can fight for one of the 32 starting places to be awarded through qualifying tournaments in both associations as well as reaching a major final of the PDC.

At the beginning of the tournament, the 32 players are divided into eight groups of four, in which everyone plays once against each other. This group stage already takes up more than half of the tournament time. The respective group first and second then compete in knockout games from the round of 16 to determine the winner of the tournament.

The group games are played in best of 9 legs. In the round of 16 you play in a maximum of 19 legs on 10 competitions, the quarter-finals to the finals are played in the best of 31 legs mode.
