The Grand Slam of Darts 2017 is a major tournament in darts and was held from November 11th to 19th for the eleventh time this year by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). As in the previous year, the venue was the Civic Hall in Wolverhampton .

The tournament victory was secured by the Dutchman Michael van Gerwen , who prevailed in the final with 16: 12- legs against the Scot Peter Wright .

format

The Grand Slam of Darts is the only tournament of the year in which both PDC and BDO players take part. Of the 32 participating players, 24 come from the PDC and eight from the BDO.

The players were first drawn into eight groups of four, for which the players were divided into four different pots during the draw. In the groups, the players determined the placement of the group stage in the "everyone against everyone" mode. The best two in each group made it to the round of 16, from where the winner of the tournament was determined in the knockout system . The game mode increased from best of 9 legs in the group phase to best of 19 legs in the round of 16 to best of 31 legs in the quarter finals up to the final.

Prize money

The tournament paid out £ 50,000 more than last year. The total prize money of £ 450,000 was distributed as follows:

position Prize money
winner £ 110,000
finalist £ 55,000
Semi-finalists £ 28,500
Quarter finalists £ 16,000
Round of 16 players £ 10,000
3rd place group stage £ 5,000
4th place group stage £ 3,000
Bonus group win £ 2,500

Attendees

In contrast to other tournaments, the qualification criteria were not based exclusively on rankings, but on victories and finals at all major PDC and BDO tournaments in the twelve months before.

Consequently, qualified for the Grand Slam of Darts 2017:

  • The 16 winners and finalists of the PDC Major Finals (in chronological order) as well as the winners of the European Tour Events and the best placed winners of the Players Championship Events in the world , insofar as 16 players did not come together with the winners and finalists of the Major Finals
  • The 8 winners of the PDC qualification tournament
  • The total of 8 BDO qualifiers from the world champion to the World Cup finalist to the winners of the two TV major and the four best-placed players in the BDO rankings

Winners and finalists PDC major finals

Winner of the PDC qualification tournament

BDO qualifiers

1 Because BDO world champion Glen Durrant also won one of the other two BDO TV tournaments, Cameron Menzies became a fifth player in the BDO rankings.
