Scott Mitchell (born June 5, 1970 in Bournemouth , England ) is an English darts player who is active in the BDO .

Career

2007 to 2013

Mitchell tried as an amateur player to qualify for the PDC UK Open 2007 , which he succeeded. He won his first game but was beaten by Jelle Klaasen in the following round . Mitchell then decided to pursue a semi-professional career with BDO .

He celebrated his first tournament success in 2009 when he won the Swiss Open and the English Classic . In 2010 he made his debut at the BDO World Championship . However, he lost his first match against Daryl Gurney 2: 3. In the following two years he hardly achieved any tournament victories and also at the world championships, he did not manage to win. It was not until the 2013 World Cup that Mitchell was able to qualify for the last sixteen for the first time after beating Mark Barilli 3-2. In the course of the year he also won three tournaments.

2014 & 2015

At the beginning of the year Mitchell reached the second round of the World Cup again, but lost to James Wilson 2: 4. In 2014 he dominated the BDO by celebrating seven tournament victories. He went into the 2015 BDO World Championship as one of the favorites . In his 1st round match he met Tony O'Shea . Both showed a good game in which in the end Mitchell emerged as the winner 3-2. This was followed by three more clear wins against Geert De Vos (4: 2), Brian Dawson (5: 2) and Jeff Smith (6: 0). Thus, Mitchell was in the final of the World Cup against three-time world champion Martin Adams . The game was extremely even and only in the 13th set the decision was made in favor of Mitchell, who was crowned world champion. For a short time he was number 1 in the BDO world rankings due to the success before he was replaced by Glen Durrant . These successes also earned him an invitation from the PDC for the Grand Slam of Darts 2015 . Mitchell did not get beyond the group stage.

2016 until today

Mitchell went into the BDO World Darts Championship 2016 as the reigning world champion , but Glen Durrant was the top favorite. When Durrant failed in the quarterfinals, Mitchell sensed his chance to defend his title. This was destroyed by the Dutchman Richard Veenstra in the quarterfinals. As a result, Mitchell celebrated a decent year 2016. He won a. a. the Welsh Open and reached two major semifinals. He established himself as number 2 of the BDO behind Durrant and received an invitation to the Grand Slam of Darts 2016 again . Mitchell showed a terrific opening match against the two-time PDC world champion Adrian Lewis . He scored an average of 107 points and won 5: 1. However, two defeats to Chris Dobey and Benito van de Pas followed and associated with it, Mitchell was eliminated from the group stage.

At the BDO World Championship 2017 he will start in second place.
