Jeff Smith (born November 6, 1975 in Hampton ) is a Canadian darts player .

Career

2008 to 2013

Smith became Canadian Darts Master in 2008, after which he began his semi-professional career in the BDO . However, there was no success and three years later, in 2011, he won a two-year PDC Tour Card in the qualifying school . But Smith could not achieve any success in the PDC either.

2014 until today

In 2014 Smith returned to the BDO. For the first time in his career he qualified for a world championship with a solid year in 2014 . After victories over Mike Day (3: 0), Wesley Harms (3: 1), Gary Robson (4: 3) and Robbie Green (5: 1), Smith was surprisingly prompt in the semifinals. There he was, however, inferior to the eventual winner, Scott Mitchell , 6-0 without a chance.

A year later, he improved his previous year's performance when he reached the final at the BDO World Championship in 2016 . There he lost clearly 1: 7 against Scott Waites . The vice world champion title brought him a wildcard for the Grand Slam of Darts 2016 which is organized by the PDC. After Smith lost his opening match against Peter Wright with 1: 5, followed two 5: 4 wins against Ted Evetts and Simon Whitlock , which Smith could surprisingly qualify for the round of 16. There he met the 16-time world champion Phil Taylor , against whom Smith was defeated 5:10.

At the BDO World Championship 2017 , Smith lost his round of 16 against Martin Adams with 1: 4 sets. The following year he qualified for the PDC World Darts Championship 2018 , but had to admit defeat to Gary Anderson in the first round . Also in the following year he lost his first round encounter, this time against Josh Payne .

At the UK Q-School 2020 Smith managed to win a Tour Card for the next two years with the PDC.
