BDO World Darts Championship 2016

The Lakeside World Darts Championship was hosted by the British Darts Organization (BDO) between January 2nd, 2016 and January 10th, 2016 . The venue was the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green , England .

Unlike the PDC , the BDO differentiates between men and women at its world championships.

The defending champion was Lisa Ashton for women and Scott Mitchell for men . In the women could Trina Gulliver won the tournament in the men's Scott Waites .

A total of 16 players took part in the tournament. The 8 best placed players in the BDO Invitation Table were set as participants. They were supplemented by 6 other players who qualified through other channels.

These 14 players were completed by the 2 winners of a qualifying tournament for the World Cup in Hull . The 8 seeded players met the 8 unset players in the 1st round.

The tournament will be played in a knockout system . The 1st round of the tournament took place from January 2nd to 6th, 2016. Game mode in the 1st round was a best of 3 sets . The 8 winners of the first round made it through to the quarter-finals from January 6th to 7th, 2016. A best of 3 sets was also played there. Subsequently, on January 8th, the semi-finals of the best 4 took place, which was also played in best-of-3 mode.

The women's final at the BDO World Darts Championship 2016, which is played in the best of 5 sets system, took place on January 9, 2016.

A total of 40 players took part in the tournament. The 16 best placed players in the BDO Invitation Table were set as participants. They were supplemented by the 11 other top-ranked members of the BDO Invitation Table.

These 27 players were complemented by a semi-finalist from the BDO World Darts Championship 2015 and 8 regional qualifiers from the WDF and completed by the 4 winners of a qualifying tournament for the World Championship in Hull . These 13 players, as well as the 3 players in places 25 - 27 of the BDO Invitation Table, competed against each other in the knockout system in the preliminary round. The winners of this preliminary round move on to the final round of the best 32.

The final round was played in a knockout system. The first round of the tournament took place from January 2nd to 5th, 2016. Game mode in the 1st round was a best of 5 sets . The 16 winners of the first round made it to the round of 16 from January 6th to 7th, 2016. A best of 7 sets was played there. The quarter-finals of the best 8, which were played in the best-of-9 mode, were then played on January 7th and 8th . The two semi-finals will take place on January 9, 2016. The games were played in the best-of-11 system. The men's final at the BDO World Darts Championship 2016, which was played in the best of 13 sets system, took place on January 10, 2016.

On November 27, 2015, Vladimir Andersen was banned from the Danish Darts Association, so Sam Hewson moved up.
