The Ladbrokes .com World Darts Championship 2006 took place from December 19, 2005 to January 2, 2006 in Purfleet . This world championship was organized by the PDC for the 13th time and took place in the Circus Tavern as in previous years .

The number 2 seeded Englishman , defending champion and record world champion Phil Taylor was able to successfully defend his title when he beat his compatriot Peter Manley 7-0 in the final .

Qualification and course of the tournament

A field of 64 participants represented a new record. Between December 22nd and 26th and New Year's Eve, the World Cup took a break, so there were no games during this period. The prize money for the world champion of £ 100,000 was also a new record.

Despite the large field of participants, there was a notable failure. John Lowe could not qualify for the world championship for the first time in his career due to his ranking in the Order of Merit . This broke his series of 28 World Cup participations in a row (including BDO). Lowe was the only player to have participated in every World Cup since the beginning of 1978.

The first big surprise in the tournament came in the first round. Like Peter Manley at the 2006 World Cup, Colin Lloyd , number one on the seeding list, surprisingly dropped out in round 1. His opponent Gary Welding made it to the quarterfinals.

Prize money

The 2010 Ladbrokes.com World Professional Darts Championship totaled £ 500,000, which is a new record. Compared to the previous year, this increased the prize money by £ 200,000. The winner's prize has been increased from £ 60,000 to a total of £ 100,000.
