Denis Ovens (born July 1, 1957 in Enfield ) is an English dart player who currently plays for the PDC . His nickname is "The Heat" and his signature tune is The Heat Is On by Glenn Frey . On the tour he is considered one of the most constant players, but he did not manage to achieve greater success in television tournaments, which also earned him the nickname The Nearly Man .

Career

At the PDC World Championship 2001 Ovens lost in the first round against Les Fitton . He lost similarly early in 2002 when he lost to Richie Burnett in the second round . The two round of 16 defeats in 2003 and the PDC World Darts Championship in 2004 was followed by his best performance at a world championship in 2005 when he lost 3: 5 to Mark Dudbrigde in the round of 16 . Previously he was able to defeat Mark Holden 4-1 and Roland Scholten 4-2. After this World Cup he lost six times in a row in the second round: 2006 against Steve Alker (1: 4), 2007 against Alan Tabern (3: 4), in 2008 against Jan van der Rassel (1: 4), in 2009 against Ronnie Baxter (1: 4), 2010 against Colin Lloyd (3: 4) and finally in 2011 against Simon Whitlock (0: 4). Also at the 2012 World Cup he was eliminated in the first round (resigned after 0-1 deficit against Kevin Münch ) and in 2013 he was eliminated again in the second round after a 3-2 win against Max Hopp (1: 4 against Adrian Lewis ).

At the UK Open Ovens reached the semi-finals three times in a row (2010–2012).

Private

Aside from darts, Ovens is a big fan of the Manchester United soccer team . He has a season ticket and goes to every game when he's not playing darts.
