Max Hopp (born August 20, 1996 in Wiesbaden ) is a German darts player . He is also known as "Maximiser" in public and in the media. He is considered to be the greatest darts talent in Germany.

Career

Max Hopp won his first major youth tournament at the age of 13 and was thus able to qualify for larger and international tournaments. At the WDF World Cup 2011 in Castlebar , Hopp first drew attention to himself. With an outstanding performance he reached 2nd place in both singles and mixed games. He won his first European title at the WDF European Youth Championship in Antwerp in 2012 .

At the 2013 World Championship of the PDC World Darts Federation , which started in 2012, Hopp took part for the first time. Hopp qualified by winning the "Central European Qualifier" 2012 in Bielefeld. He was the second youngest dart player to take part in a PDC World Championship. Here he was eliminated in the first round with 2: 3 after sets against the Englishman Denis Ovens , after he had previously won his preliminary round match against Charl Pietersen from South Africa with 4: 1 after legs .

Thanks to his good placement in the “European Order of Merit”, Hopp got a place in the PDC World Championship the following year ; however, he lost again in round 1 with 1: 3 after sets, this time against the Scot Robert Thornton .

He also competed at the PDC World Championship 2015 . In the first round he met the Englishman Mervyn King , against whom Hopp threw the maximum number of 180 points ten times and won after sets 3-2 (he ended the decisive leg with a 161 bull finish). In the second round he met Vincent van der Voort from the Netherlands , but lost clearly 0: 4 after sets. By reaching the 2nd round he rose to 62nd place in the PDC Order of Merit , his highest position in the PDC world rankings up to that point.

At the UK Open 2015 Hopp lost in round 3 7: 9 against the Belgian Kim Huybrechts .

In 2015 he competed at the World Cup of Darts with Jyhan Artut . After victories over India and Austria , they reached the quarter-finals. There they were defeated by England 2-0.

A week later, Hopp scored the first 9-darter of his career at the Host Nation Qualifier for the International Darts Open in Riesa .

In July 2015 he reached number 50 in the world rankings. He passed Jyhan Artut and was the highest placed German. On October 19th he succeeded in reaching the final of the PDC U23 Youth World Championship in Wigan, which he won 6: 5 against Nathan Aspinall on November 29th during the Players Championship Finals , making it the World for the first time Youth Champion was allowed to crown. Hopp is the youngest player of all time to hold this title.

At the European Darts Matchplay 2016 in Hamburg, Hopp was the first German ever to make it into the quarter-finals of an event on the European Darts Tour . There he lost to Peter Wright 4: 6.

At the European Darts Championship 2016 he won in round 1 against Benito van de Pas , but lost clearly against James Wade with 3:10 in the round of 16 . At the Grand Slam of Darts 2016 he was eliminated in the group stage. At the PDC World Darts Championship 2017 he returned the favor to Vincent van der Voort for the defeat in the 2nd round two years earlier and won with 3: 1. At the World Cup of Darts 2017 he reached the quarterfinals with Martin Schindler . Due to a mixed year 2017, Max Hopp did not qualify for the PDC World Darts Championship 2018 for the first time since reaching the minimum age of 16 years . In response, he decided to return to the Super League . At the German Darts Grand Prix 2018 he reached the quarter-finals of a European Tour tournament for the first time in 2 years . Two weeks later he surprisingly won the German Darts Open . On the way to the title he beat u. a. the Premier League player Rob Cross (7: 6), who is also the reigning world champion, Peter Wright (6: 4) and Michael Smith (8: 7). On September 28th he won his second professional tournament victory at the Professional Darts Corporation by winning the Players Championship 19 in Dublin. To crown his strong achievements in 2018, Hopp was named Young Player of the Year at the PDC Annual Awards Dinner 2019.

For the 2016 World Darts Championship , he changed his running-in music from Levels to Yaya Kolo . Since 2018 he uses Hey Baby by DJ Ötzi as a walk-on music.

At the Players Championship No. 30 in 2019, Max Hopp scored 119.2 points, the highest average average of a German PDC player.
