Castlebar ( Irish : Caisleán an Bharraigh ) is the largest city in the Irish County of Mayo with 12,068 inhabitants (2016) and at the same time its administrative seat (seat of Mayo County Council ).
Economy and Transport
Located at the junction of two roads (the N5 from Westport to Dublin and the N60 to Galway ), Castlebar was one of the fastest growing cities in Ireland until the early 2000s , with a main shopping street lined with (until now) mostly smaller shops Citycenter; however, since 2002 the number of inhabitants has grown only relatively slightly.
Attractions
Is the oldest building in town, the Christ Church of the Church of Ireland , whose foundation stone was laid 1739th
Another attraction is the Museum of Country Life, 8 km to the east, with an old mansion within the complex that can be visited.
Otherwise, the city is comparatively poor in terms of sights and historical sites as well as tourist facilities, such as those found in Westport, the other larger city in the vicinity.
