Peekskill is a city in Westchester County in the US state of New York . It is located about 65 kilometers north of New York City on the left, east bank of the Hudson River and has 23,583 inhabitants (as of 2010). Peekskill became known nationwide primarily for the racist riots that occurred near the city on August 27 and September 4, 1949 ( Peekskill Randale 1949 ).
