Ballymena ( Irish : An Baile Meánach , "middle town") is a town in the historic County of Antrim , Northern Ireland , United Kingdom , and was the administrative seat of the former District of Ballymena , which in 2015 became the District of Mid and East Antrim . It is now the administrative seat of the District Mid and East Antrim. The city has 29,467 inhabitants (2011), of which 25.8% are Catholic and 61.4% belong to another Christian denomination.
There is a hill fort and the government bunker Ballymena on site . The Court Tomb of Ballymarlagh is southeast of Ballymena.
