Mid and East Antrim ( Irish Ceantar Aontroma Láir agus Thoir ) is a district in Northern Ireland . It was formed on April 1, 2015 from the boroughs of Ballymena , Larne and Carrickfergus . It is administered by the Mid and East Antrim District Council .

location

The new district is entirely within County Antrim . It extends from the Spell in the west to the coast of Antrim. It also includes the southern portion of the Antrim Coast and Glens Area of ​​Outstanding Natural Beauty and the larger towns of Ballymena and Carrickfergus, as well as the important port of Larne . There are 97,192 voters there out of a total population of 135,339. The name was set on September 17, 2008.

The Mid and East Antrim District Council replaced the Ballymena Borough Council , Carrickfergus Borough Council, and Larne Borough Council . The first elections for the District Council were supposed to take place in May 2009, but 25 April 2008 announced Shaun Woodward , Minister of Northern Ireland that the elections in 2011 were postponed. The first elections actually took place on May 22, 2014.
