Mid Ulster ( Irish Ceantar Lár Uladh ) is a district in Northern Ireland . It was formed on April 1, 2015 from the districts of Magherafelt and Cookstown and the borough of Dungannon and South Tyrone . It is administered by the Mid Ulster District Council .

location

The new District encompasses the southeast of County Londonderry , the southeast of County Tyrone, and a small strip of northwest County Armagh . The west coast of Lough Neagh belongs to it and it borders Ireland's County Monaghan in the south . There are 94,284 eligible voters in this district. The name was announced on September 17, 2008.

administration

The Mid Ulster District Council replaced the Magherafelt District Council , Cookstown District Council, and Dungannon and South Tyrone Borough Council . The first elections for the District Council were supposed to take place in May 2009, but 25 April 2008 announced Shaun Woodward , Minister of Northern Ireland that the elections in 2011 were postponed. The first elections actually took place on May 22, 2014.
