Ards and North Down (also North Down and Ards , Irish Ceantar na hArda agus an Dúin Thuaidh ) is a district in Northern Ireland . It was formed on April 1, 2015 from the two boroughs Ards and North Down . It is administered by the Ards and North Down Borough Council .

The new District is in the eastern part of Northern Ireland and includes the Ards Peninsula, much of Strangford Lough and the south coast of Belfast Lough . The constituency has 111,915 eligible voters. The name of the new district was created on September 17, 2008.

The Ards and North Down Borough Council replaced the Ards Borough Council and the North Down Borough Council . The first elections for the District Council were supposed to take place in May 2009, but 25 April 2008 announced Shaun Woodward , Minister of Northern Ireland that the elections in 2011 were postponed. The first elections actually took place on May 22, 2014.
At a meeting of the not yet incumbent District Council, the MPs voted for the name to be changed to East Coast Borough Council and for a change of name to be submitted to the Department of Environment on April 1, 2015 . Since April 1, 2015, the council has been calling itself Ards and North Down Borough Council on its website .
