Newry, Morne and Down ( Irish Ceantar an Iúir, Mhúrn agus an Dúin ) is a district in Northern Ireland . It was formed on April 1, 2015 from the districts of Newry and Morne and Down and the eastern part of Banbridge . It is administered by the Newry, Morne and Down District Council .

The new District covers most of the south-east of Northern Ireland, including the southern part of County Armagh and much of County Down . It encompasses the entire Morne Mountains Area of ​​Outstanding Natural Beauty and has extensive coastline from Strangford Lough to Carlingford Lough . It also borders the Irish counties of County Louth and County Monaghan . There are 120,095 voters there. The name was set on September 17, 2008.

The Newry, Morne and Down District Council replaced the Newry and Morne District Council and the Down District Council . The first elections for the District Council were supposed to take place in May 2009, but 25 April 2008 announced Shaun Woodward , Minister of Northern Ireland that the elections in 2011 were postponed.
