Derry City and Strabane ( Irish Ceantar Dhoire agus an tSratha Báin ) is a district in Northern Ireland . It was formed on April 1, 2015 from the City of Derry and Strabane districts. It is administered by the Derry and Strabane District Council .

location

The new district is located in the north-west of Northern Ireland and includes the western part of County Londonderry and the north-west of County Tyrone . It borders Ireland's County Donegal to the northwest and west . There are 104,749 eligible voters in this district. The name was announced on September 17, 2008 and later supplemented with the addition of City , which is to highlight the status of Derry.

The Derry and Strabane District Council replaced the Derry City Council and Strabane District Council . The first elections for the District Council were supposed to take place in May 2009, but 25 April 2008 announced Shaun Woodward , Minister of Northern Ireland that the elections in 2011 were postponed. The first elections actually took place on May 22, 2014.
