Super League darts

The Super League Darts (also Super League Darts Germany or German Super League ) is a darts competition organized annually by PDC Europe . The winner qualifies for the World Professional Darts Championship of the Professional Darts Corporation .

The current record winner is Nico Kurz with 2 titles.

General

The Super League Darts was launched in 2013 to identify a German participant in the PDC World Professional Darts Championship. Up until 2012, a German participant was played through various qualification tournaments. In addition to the possibilities of regular qualification via a place in the Top 32 of the PDC Order of Merit or the Top 32 of the PDC Pro Tour Order of Merit (Top 16 up to and including the PDC World Darts Championship 2018 ), German dart players also receive, who do not have one of the 128 Tour Cards , a possibility to qualify for the PDC World Professional Darts Championship. However, holders of a Tour Card are also eligible to play in the Super League. Furthermore, the German participants in the German Darts Masters are determined via the Super League.

The Super League Darts is aimed at players with ambitions for a professional darts career and should not be confused with the German championship , which is a purely amateur tournament.

In 2018, the final of the Super League Darts was broadcast on television for the first time on the Sport1 channel. Since there was no broadcast in 2019, the entire season will be broadcast on Sport 1 and on pdc.tv in 2020.

Mode and participants

16 players take part in the Super League Darts. Up to and including the 2019 season , the following mode was in effect: On five weekends, each player played one game in Best-of-Eleven mode against each other player, so that each player played a total of 75 games. The best eight players in the final table play the final tournament on a sixth weekend, the winner of which qualifies for the PDC World Professional Darts Championship. The top 13 players in the final table are qualified for the next season of the Super League, the three free starting places will be allocated in a qualifying tournament before the season. With the exception of the 2018 season, however, wildcards were given to selected players every season.

This mode was also planned for the 2020 season but was changed during the current season. The players are now divided into two groups of 8 players each. The preliminary round matches are played on four weekends, with only one group active on each weekend. Each weekend, all players in the respective group compete against each other once, so that in the end all participants have played 14 games. The best four players in the final tables each play the final tournament on a fifth weekend, the winner of which qualifies for the PDC World Professional Darts Championship.
