BDO World Darts Championship 2019

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Lakeside World Professional Darts Championship 2019 was the 42nd edition of the BDO conducted Darts - World Cup , which from 5 to 13 January 2019 at the Lakeside Country Club in Frimley Green ( England were held). Separate competitions were held for men and women.

As defending champions, Glen Durrant went to the men's and Lisa Ashton to the women's world championships. Ashton failed in the first round of the women's tournament to Mikuru Suzuki , who won the women's tournament. Durrant was able to successfully defend his title in the men's final against Scott Waites . The long-time professional and three-time world champion Martin Adams did not take part in a BDO World Championship for the first time since 1994 and instead acted as an expert on TV broadcasts.

Format & qualification

40 players took part in the 42nd edition of the BDO World Darts Championship . The 26 best players qualified via the BDO ranking . Since both of the World Cup finalists from the previous year were able to qualify for the World Cup via the BDO Invitation Table, the 27th in the ranking was also qualified for the World Cup. The field of participants was supplemented by the winner of the Winmau World Master, eight regional qualifiers and the four winners of a qualification tournament. The 16 best players in the world rankings were set for the first round. The players in the world rankings 17 to 24 were drawn to these players in round 1 in advance of the tournament. The remaining players had to go through a preliminary round before moving into the first round.

The tournament was played in the knockout system and in set mode. To win a set, a player needs three legs, with a gap of two legs to win in any decisive set. In the preliminary round and the first round, three sets were required to win a game. The round of 16 was played in the Best of 7 mode and the quarter-finals in the Best of 9 mode. To win the semifinals, six sets ( Best of 11 mode ) were then required, while the Best of 13 mode was used in the final .
