Ryan Hogarth (born January 25, 1992 in Kelso ) is a Scottish darts player who competes in tournaments of the PDC and BDO darts associations under the nickname "Headhunter" .

Career

First career years

Hogarth gained his first tournament experience when he took part in the youth tournament of the PDC World Darts Championship 2011 , where he reached the round of 64. Later in the year, the Scot attended events on the PDC Development Tour in England. In addition, he tried in the same year to qualify for the first time for the BDO World Championship , but failed in a qualifying tournament for the World Championship of the association. He also took part in the World Masters in 2011 , but lost 3-0 to the Finn Jarkko Komula in the second round . In 2012 Hogarth took part again in the PDC World Youth Championship , which this year no longer took place parallel to the men's tournament, where he survived the first round and lost just 4: 5 legs in the round of 32 against Shaun Griffiths . His participation in a qualifier for the BDO World Darts Championship 2013 and the World Masters were again unsuccessful. In return he reached the quarter-finals and the semi-finals at two events of the PDC Challenge Tour . In both tournaments he was able to prevail against the Englishman Keegan Brown , among others . At the 2013 World Masters , Hogarth survived the first two rounds, but lost to Ron Meulenkamp in the round of the last 80 . To this day, this has remained Hogarth's best placement at the world's oldest still existing darts tournament. At the British Classics in the following year, the Scot made it to the quarter-finals, but his efforts to get a ticket for the 2015 World Cup failed again.

First successes on the Development Tour

In January 2015, Hogarth tried his hand at the PDC Qualifying School for the first time , where he fought for a tour card for the PDC Pro Tour , but failed in each of the four tournaments in round two. Hogarth was also unable to qualify for the UK Open of the PDC, but he reached the second round of the German Open and thus made it into one of the last rounds of a major tournament for the first time . He participated in the tournaments of the PDC Challenge Tour and the PDC Development Tour in 2015 and 2016 with limited success. In return, Hogarth reached the round of 16 at the European Darts Classic 2016, which was held by the competing association BDO , in which he lost to Danny Noppert . In the following year he also moved into the quarterfinals of a Development Tour event for the first time , but lost to Ted Evetts in this . The World Masters , in which Hogarth did not take part in 2016, came to an early end for him again in 2017 (round of the last 144).

today

Hogarth had his most successful season to date in 2018 when he qualified for the BDO World Trophy . After a 6: 3 win over Gary Robson , he moved into the round of 16 of the tournament, in which he was defeated by his compatriot Ross Montgomery . Hogarth also made a name for himself at the England National Championships by reaching the quarter-finals when he first played. At the WDF Europe Cup he was eliminated in the same year against the favorite Darius Labanauskas in the round of 32 after he had triumphed in the two previous rounds. At the beginning of October, Hogarth took part again in a qualifier for the BDO World Championship and was able to secure a ticket for the 2019 World Cup by winning the tournament . However , the Scot could not win his preliminary round match against the Serbian Oliver Ferenc , so he did not get into the first round.
