Career

Thompson started playing darts in 1990 and entered his first tournament 13 years later in October 2003. At the WDF World Cup , in which he represented his home country Australia in a single tournament, Thompson made it to the round of 64, in which he lost 4-0 legs to Andy Fordham . Due to the great distance between Australia and Europe, where most of the darts tournaments are held, Thompson has only played a few tournaments outside of his home country. In the following years he only took part in tournaments that took place in his country. In 2016, Thompson was finally able to secure his first major title by winning the WDF Asia-Pacific Cup . In the following years the Australian also took part in tournaments of the DPA, the Australian branch of the PDC . In March 2017, Thompsons won the DPA Australian Pro Tour for the first time after beating favorite Corey Cadby 6-4 in the final . The tournaments in his home country also included the PDC tournaments Perth Masters and Melbourne Masters . For this Thompson received a wild card as a dart player of the host country and was able to play games against the dart players Gary Anderson and Simon Whitlock , which he lost both.

Following his first win on the Australia Pro Tour , he won two more events in the tournament series, which contributed to the fact that he was allowed to start at the World Masters in September 2017 , where he failed in one of the preliminary rounds and thus placed 80 reached. Only a few days later, Thompson, as part of the Australian national team, played his part in Australia's first-time win of the WDF World Cup . By his victory in a regional playoff of BDO Thompson secured the participation in the BDO World Darts Championship 2018 . After successfully surviving the preliminary round, the Australian lost his first-round game against Darryl Fitton and was eliminated from the tournament. Thompson also qualified for the BDO World Trophy for the first time in 2018 , but lost his first game against Andy Baetens . At the World Masters , the dart player had to be satisfied with 80th place again in 2018. In 2019, Thompson qualified a second time for the BDO World Championship and was also able to win a preliminary round game. A 2: 3 defeat in the first round against the German Michael Unterbuchner sealed his end.
