David "Dave" Cameron (born September 15, 1969 in New Glasgow , Nova Scotia ) is a Canadian darts player who takes part in tournaments of the BDO .

Career

Career start

Cameron started playing darts as a hobby in 1990. In 1998 the Canadian played his first professional tournament, the Canada National Championships , where he reached the semifinals. In the same year, Cameron also took part in a major BDO tournament, the World Masters , for the first time, but was eliminated after the first round of the competition. Since most of the major darts tournaments are played in England and thus far away from Cameron's home in Canada, the player limited himself to participation in smaller competitions in North America and the annual World Masters . In the years up to 2010, he took part in the Canada National Championships six more times . The Canadian achieved his best result in the tournament, which is held annually in June in 2002, when he lost to world champion John Part in the final . In the summer of 2008, Cameron played PDC qualifying tournaments for the first time in order to receive, among other things, a right to participate in the Las Vegas Dessert Classic , which did not lead to success. In 2011 Cameron reached another final of a BDO darts tournament. At the Halifax Open , which were held in Halifax (Nova Scotia) , he only failed in the final at the later BDO World Cup finalist Jeff Smith .

Tournaments in Europe

In 2011, Cameron first tried unsuccessfully to qualify for a World Darts Championship by participating in a qualifier organized by the BDO . In the same year he won the Canada Open with a 5-1 final win over Bruce Davey and thus his first title. In the following time Cameron also managed to win smaller tournaments such as the Quebec Open or the Newfoundland Open , but his participation in tournaments held in Europe remains rare. As a so-called WDF regional qualifier , Cameron was able to take part in his first Darts World Cup in 2014 , where he lost himself against ex-world champion Martin Adams in the preliminary round . In the same year, the Canadian took part in the BDO World Trophy for the first time . Here, too, he was eliminated early because he had to admit defeat to the favored Scott Mitchell . The American championship of the BDO, the WDF Americas Cup , Cameron was able to secure as a representative of his home country Canada.

As a result, the BDO invited the dart player to the World Cup for a second time in 2015 , but again he did not make it through the preliminary round. Cameron was invited again for the BDO World Trophy , but again defeated the Englishman Mitchell in the first round. His third World Cup participation in a row also ended for him after the preliminary round, as he lost 3-0 to Ted Hankey despite a better average. In the further course of the year he was able to win six BDO tournaments in his home country, including the Canada National Championships for the first time . In addition, Cameron came into the main draw of the tournament for the first time at the BDO World Darts Championship 2017 with a 3-1 win against the Dutchman Jimmy Hendriks , but lost his first-round game against the eventual World Cup finalist Danny Noppert . A career highlight is the invitation to the US Darts Masters 2017 , when he faced former world champion Raymond van Barneveld in the round of 16 , but had to admit defeat 3: 6. In 2018 Cameron took part in the BDO World Darts Championship for the fifth time in a row , but lost his opening match against the German Michael Unterbuchner . A year later, the Canadian did much better at the World Cup when he threw, among others, Gary Robson from the tournament and so reached the second round.

Intended change to PDC

As one of many players from the starting field of the BDO World Darts Championship 2019 , Cameron has registered for the UK Q-School of the PDC . If he achieves a promising place in the Q-School Order of Merit , he can take part in the PDC Pro Tour tournaments for the next two years . Otherwise the player would remain with the BDO.
