The 1978 BDO World Darts Championship , officially the 1978 Embassy World Darts Championship , took place from February 6th to 10th, 1978 at The Heart of the Midlands in Nottingham , England . The first ever World Darts Championship was hosted by the British Darts Organization (BDO) and televised by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC).

Prize money

A total of £ 10,500 in prize money was awarded:

  • Winner: £ 3,000
  • Finalist: £ 1,700
  • 3rd place: £ 1,000
  • 4th place: £ 800
  • Quarter-finals: £ 500
  • First round: £ 250
