Ladbrokes plc is a company in the UK with headquarters in the district of Rayners Lane in Harrow . The company is listed in the FTSE 250 index and was previously listed in the FTSE 100 stock index until June 2006 .

Ladbrokes is the UK's largest bookmaker and the world's largest bookmaker. Ladbrokes has over 2,700 bookmaker stores in the UK, Ireland and Belgium.

The company's online offering includes sports betting and other betting options as well as poker, casino and online games in numerous countries. Due to the provisions of the State Treaty on Gaming in 2008 , the company's offering in Germany is currently limited to poker and casino games.

history

Ladbrokes, Leeds

The company was founded in 1886 by businessmen Schwind and Pendleton in Ladbroke Hall, Worcestershire . The Ladbrokes name was adopted in 1902.

In 1956, Cyril Stein and Max Parker took over the company. When the British government legalized betting shops in 1961, Stein used this to his advantage and established a chain of betting shops. In 1967 Stein became chairman of the company and listed it on the London Stock Exchange .

With the acquisition of La Tiercé SA , Ladbrokes expanded to Belgium in 1984. In addition to other purchases in the 80s, the Vernons company was acquired in 1989 , which was founded in 1925. In 2005 it was sold to Sportech .

Between 1999 and 2006, Ladbrokes owned a large hotel business, including marketing the Hilton Hotels brand outside of the United States. From May 14, 1999 to February 23, 2006 the company was called Hilton Group plc , after which Ladbrokes plc was established .

On July 24, 2015, the merger with Gala Coral was announced.

Ladbrokes uses Orbis Technology's OpenBet system . The company owns and operates two greyhound stadiums in Crayford and Monmore . It has sponsored the PDC World Darts Championship since 2008.

Since June 2008 Ladbrokes has been the first betting company to offer a customer card, Odds ON! . With this card, customers receive free bets via a points system. The card can only be used in Ladbrokes stores.
