Jamie Hughes (born February 27, 1986 in West Bromwich ) is an English darts player who is active in the PDC .

Career

2007 to 2014

Hughes has been with the BDO since 2007, but he hardly played any tournaments in his early days. In 2012 he qualified as an amateur for the PDC UK Open . In the preliminary round he was defeated by Steve Hine .

2015 until today

2014 was the breakthrough year for Hughes. He now concentrated more on his darts career and had his first successes. Hughes secured his first BDO title by winning the Antwerp Open . He later took part in the World Masters , the oldest major tournament in darts. He surprisingly reached the final, which he lost to Martin Phillips . At the end of 2014 he also took part in the Zuiderduin Masters for the first time , which he promptly won and thus secured his first major title.

Due to his success he became number 10 in the world rankings and went into his first world championship as a seeded player in early 2015 . In the first round he won against Michel van der Horst 3-1 in sets. One lap later, they lost 4-1 to Glen Durrant . A year later, in 2016, he made it to the semi-finals of the BDO World Championship . He won his first three games all against Ross Montgomery (3: 0), Madars Razma (4: 1) and Wesley Harms (5: 1), before being beaten 6-1 in the semifinals to eventual world champion Scott Waites .

Hughes established himself on rank 4 of the BDO world rankings and so he received, as one of eight BDO players, a wildcard for the Grand Slam of Darts 2016 , which is organized by the rival association, the PDC . Despite a strong group with James Wade , James Wilson and Dave Chisnall , Hughes qualified as group winners for the round of 16. There he met Chris Dobey . 10 legs had to be won. Hughes was already 5: 9 behind, survived several match darts and fought his way to 9: 9 before Dobey was defeated in the decisive 19th leg. Later in the year he made it to the semi-finals of the World Masters and the finals of the Zuiderduin Masters .

At the BDO World Championship 2017 , Hughes is ranked fourth. In Round 1 he beat Martin Atkins 3-1.
