The World Grand Prix was a major tournament in darts and was held from October 8th to 14th, 2012 for the 15th time by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). The venue for the twelfth time was the Citywest Hotel in Dublin .

The defending champion was Phil Taylor . The winner was Michael van Gerwen , who won the tournament for the first time.

format

The tournament was played in a knockout system . Game mode in the 1st round was a best of 3 sets . In the final a best of 11 sets . Each leg was played in 501 double-in-double-out mode.

Prize money

As in the previous year, a total of £ 350,000 in prize money was distributed. The prize money was distributed among the participants as follows:

qualification

The following players were qualified for the World Grand Prix 2012:

  • The first 16 players of the Order of Merit , of which the first 8 were seeded
  • The 14 first-placed players in the ProTour Order of Merit who were not already eligible to participate via the Order of Merit
  • The 2 best placed players in the ProTour Order of Merit from Ireland and Northern Ireland who did not meet either of the above criteria and who had participated in at least four Players Championships tournaments

transmission

The broadcasters Sport1 and Sport1 + broadcast the event in German-speaking countries . Sport1 + showed the tournament in full. The station can also be received in Austria via cable and satellite.

Internationally, all games were also transmitted directly to pdc.tv by the PDC.
