Kamalamai (former name: Sindhulimadi , Nepali सिन्धुलीमाडी ) is a city ( municipality ) and the administrative seat of Sindhuli District in Province No. 3 in Nepal .
The city lies in the valley of the Guang Khola . In 1767 the plain was the scene of a battle between the Kingdom of Gorkha (former name for Nepal) under Prithvi Narayan Shah and the British under Captain Kinloch. The British had advanced from India against Nepal and encountered fierce resistance near Sindhuli, which established the reputation of the Gurkhas . Ruins of a fortress are still on a ridge at an altitude of 1450 m , just under 10 km northeast of Kamalamai ( ⊙ ).
Kamalamai is on a new road, the BP Koirala Rajmarg , which connects the Kathmandu valley with the southeastern Terai . The urban area covers 207.95 km².

At the 2011 census, Kamalamai had 39,413 inhabitants (18,788 of them male) in 9,304 households.
