Paul Nicholson (born May 10, 1979 in Newcastle upon Tyne , Great Britain ) is an Australian darts player . Nicholson was born in the UK but chose to be an Australian citizen. He is often referred to as the bad boy of darts due to his arrogant and controversial style of play. His nickname is The Asset and his run-in music is "Bad Reputation" by Joan Jett .

Career

It was not until 2007 that Nicholson switched to the more lucrative PDC darts association after winning several tournaments . In his first World Cup participation in 2009 , he was able to convince the masses and only failed in the quarterfinals to James Wade with 3: 5, while on the way he beat well-established greats like Dennis Priestley and Adrian Lewis . In the following years, however, Nicholson was mixed up and was eliminated early in 2010 in the 1st round (2: 3 defeat against Terry Jenkins ) and in 2011 in the 2nd round (2: 4 defeat against Peter Wright ).

In June 2010 he was able to establish himself among the first 16 of the PDC Order of Merit and was ranked 9th on the seed list at the PDC World Darts Championship 2012 . In the tournament he was able to defeat Mensur Suljović and Alan Tabern and was considered a secret favorite, but was disappointed in the round of 16 against the Belgian newcomer Kim Huybrechts , who failed in the quarter-finals against later finalist Andy Hamilton .

In January 2015, Nicholson was in position 28 in the PDC Order of Merit .

Nicholson is also a big fan of the WWE wrestling league . His favorite wrestler there is CM Punk , whose signature line is “It's clobberin 'time” (“It's time to beat up”), and Nicholson imitates gestures before every game as a tribute.
