The Unibet Premier League Darts 2020 is an invitation tournament organized by the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). It will be the 16th edition of this tournament. The prize money earned in the Premier League does not flow into the PDC Order of Merit , as it is an invitation tournament. A total of 17 game days will take place.
The series of events began on February 6, 2020 at P&J Live in Aberdeen and is expected to end on October 22, 2020 at The O2 in London with the play-offs. Originally, the final should have taken place on May 21, 2020. After the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic , however, all other game days were postponed from the 7th day of the game. After several changes to the schedule, it was decided on July 15, 2020 that six of the eleven remaining game days would be played without spectators in Milton Keynes instead of Birmingham , Belfast , Leeds , Berlin and Rotterdam . On August 17, 2020, another four game days were added Milton Keynes relocated so that only the play-offs with spectators should be played.
As in the previous year, the first four players of the PDC Order of Merit (deadline: January 1st, 2020, after the final of the PDC World Darts Championship 2020 ) qualified for the Premier League . In addition, five other players received a wildcard for the Premier League from the PDC and Sky Sports . The format introduced in the previous year due to the failure of Gary Anderson with nine permanent participants and nine “contenders”, now referred to as “challengers”, who compete on a matchday of the preliminary round, was retained. In contrast to the previous year, James Wade , Mensur Suljović and Raymond van Barneveld had to leave the field. They were replaced by Gary Anderson , who had canceled his participation the previous year due to back pain, and the debutants Nathan Aspinall and Glen Durrant .
