Jonny Clayton (born October 4, 1974 in Pontyberem, Carmarthenshire , Wales ) is a Welsh darts player . His nickname is The Ferret , in German ferret .

Career

Clayton played in the BDO from 2008 to 2015 . He celebrated his first major success in the BDO in 2012 at the WDF Europe Cup . Clayton was able to reach the semi-finals and lost here against the then reigning BDO world champion Christian Kist . After that, Clayton was not able to record any further successes in the BDO, apart from a quarter-finals entry at the BDO International Open 2014. Despite no major successes in the BDO, Clayton decided to switch to the PDC in 2015 . Here he was able to earn a Tour Card for two years on the last day of the Qualifying School 2015 . Clayton played significantly more successfully at the PDC than at the BDO and rose steadily in the PDC Order of Merit . Clayton made his World Cup debut in 2017 . In the first round he was victorious against his compatriot Gerwyn Price . He was finally eliminated in the second round against the Englishman Ian White . In the course of 2017 Clayton was able to win his first tournament on the PDC Pro Tour, in the final he won 6: 1 against James Wilson . Clayton celebrated his greatest success to date at the Players Championship Finals 2017 , he reached a final in a major tournament of the PDC for the first time in his career. In the end he only had to admit defeat to Michael van Gerwen . In his second World Cup participation, however, he could not continue his performances at the Players Championship Finals and lost in the first round 3-0 to his compatriot Jamie Lewis . After a slow start to 2018, he celebrated his first tournament victory on the European Tour at the Austrian Darts Open in Graz with an 8: 5 against Gerwyn Price .
