The Motorpoint Arena Cardiff is a multi-purpose arena and convention center in the Welsh capital Cardiff , United Kingdom .
history
The building was inaugurated on September 10, 1993 by Shirley Bassey in front of 5,500 spectators as the Cardiff International Arena & Convention Center . The building kept this name until 2000. From 2000 to 2011 the hall was known as the Cardiff International Arena , or The CIA for short . The conference center consists of an exhibition hall with an area of 4,500 square meters . The main hall of the building, in which internationally successful artists such as Eric Clapton , One Direction , Jessie J , Anastacia , and Jason Derulo have performed, holds a maximum of 7,500 spectators with a minimum occupancy of the stage and standing room. Even stand-up comedy - and snooker events were already held in the hall. In addition, the hall has been part of the Premier League Darts schedule for years and was the venue for the Champions League of Darts in 2016 and 2017 .
