Live Nation Entertainment is an American media company based in Beverly Hills , California . The company, which was spun off from the US group Clear Channel Communications under the name CCE Spinco and renamed Live Nation in 2005, specializes in live events and public relations.

In 2010 Live Nation merged with Ticketmaster Entertainment to form Live Nation Entertainment . The combined company will be led by Greg Maffei (CEO of Liberty Media ) as Chairman and Canadian Michael Rapino (previously CEO of Live Nation) as President and CEO.

history

In its founding year, 28,500 events with over 61 million viewers were advertised or produced - including concerts, theater performances and sporting events. Live Nation operates 117 venues (75 US; 42 overseas). This includes 39 open-air theaters, 58 theaters, 14 clubs and 4 multi-purpose halls . In addition, Live Nation has the right to book events at 33 other locations.

In the fall of 2007, the pop singer Madonna announced that she was leaving her record company Warner Music and switching to Live Nation. She became the first artist to make a release in the Live Nation Artists division and received an estimated $ 120 million for her 10-year contract. The US rapper Jay-Z has also switched to Live Nation on similar terms.

In 2008 Live Nation signed a 12-year contract with U2 , which includes the exclusive live and merchandising rights for this period. In November 2013 Live Nation took over the management companies Principle Management from U2's longtime manager and "fifth band member" Paul McGuinness and Maverick from Madonna's manager Guy Oseary for an allegedly total of 30 million US dollars . At the same time, McGuinness retired to the post of chairman of Principle and officially handed the management of U2 over to Live Nation and Oseary after 34 years , who coordinated the recordings of Songs of Innocence , the band's 2014 album, even before the takeovers .

In the wake of the rampant global COVID-19 pandemic , Live Nation's sales in the second quarter of 2020 plummeted 98 percent compared to the same period last year.

Holdings

Live Nation has held a majority stake in Academy Music Group , the UK's leading owner and operator of concert halls , since 2007 .

In July 2017 Live Nation took over the majority stake in the organizer of Openair Frauenfeld , the largest urban music festival in continental Europe.
