2009: move to Beluga Heights / worldwide breakthrough

Before an album was released, Derulo switched to the Beluga Heights label of the successful producer JR Rotem . Further publications did not bring the hoped-for breakthrough either, so the release of an album, the planned title Future History , was postponed.

In 2009 another offensive was started together with the major label Warner . The song Whatcha Say was released with great announcement . The song was produced by JR Rotem and the German producer Fuego and uses a sample from the Imogen Heap song Hide and Seek . This time the desired success occurred, and in November 2009 the song reached number 1 on the US charts. For the song Ridin 'Solo , which reached number 9 in the US charts, he uses the sample from The Verve song Bitter Sweet Symphony . On the GoodMusicCharts this song was ranked number 1 and stayed there for ten weeks. On September 30, 2013, Ridin 'Solo was able to place in the top 10 again after 53 weeks.

In August 2013 this song was once again placed in the Top 30 of the GoodMusicCharts.

In February 2012 Derulo wanted to start a tour through Great Britain, but broke a cervical vertebra during rehearsals and therefore canceled all dates for the tour. On December 16, 2011, a compilation was released containing Derulo's old and new releases in remix form. She received the title Reloaded . In July 2012 the Platinum Edition of Future History was released , which contains a second CD with remixes of all songs that have been released as single up to now, and thus practically represents a double album of Future History and Reloaded . Also included was his 10th single Undefeated . The single reached number 90 in the US and 14th and 26th in Australia and New Zealand, respectively.
