MTV Europe Music Awards

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The MTV Europe Music Awards ( EMA ), also MTV European Music Awards , are an annual, location-changing award ceremony for music artists from all over the world.

The EMAs were introduced in 1994 as a counterpart to the US MTV Video Music Awards (VMA). Many countries have their own category for the best domestic artist, who - like most award winners - is chosen by viewers of MTV on the Internet. The MTV Europe Music Awards are broadcast worldwide on TV and the Internet and can be watched by more than a billion people.

criticism

The EMAs are criticized because they are called the Europe Music Awards , but are heavily dominated by US greats. Most of the performing artists are from the USA, and even the presenters and laudators are rarely from Europe. Everyone can vote in the individual categories, but the nominees are determined by MTV. A European touch is also avoided as each MTV station only broadcasts the award ceremony for its local award winner. MTV Deutschland does not show the award of the Best UK and Ireland Act , but the award of the Best German Act , which is running in parallel .

Regional categories

Since 1998, in addition to the main categories, a regional award has been given to the respective MTV station. The following artists received a Europe Music Award in the Best German Act category:

aThe category was then called MTV Select - Central

The Best Swiss Act has also been awarded since 2009 :
