Abdullah bin Chalifa Al Thani

Sheikh Abdullah bin Chalifa Al Thani ( Arabic عبدالله بن خليفة آل ثاني, DMG ʿAbdullāh b. Ḫalīfa Āl Ṯānī ; * 1959 in Doha ) was the incumbent Prime Minister of Qatar from October 29, 1996 to April 2, 2007 . Until the beginning of 2001, Sheikh Abdullah also held the post of Minister of the Interior, which he had been given in 1989.

Life

Sheikh Al Thani was educated at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst in Sandhurst after finishing school. After graduating in 1976, he joined the armed forces of his home country.

In 1989 he was appointed Minister of the Interior, and in 1995 he was also Deputy Prime Minister.

On December 20, 1988, Sheikh Al Thani became a member of the National Olympic Committee of Qatar, of which he was chairman until 1989.

Sheikh Al Thani speaks fluent English and French in addition to Arabic.
