Hamad ibn Jasim ibn Jabr Al Thani ( Arabic حمد بن جاسم بن جبر آل ثاني, DMG Ḥamad b. Ǧāsim b. Ǧabir Āl Ṯānī ; sometimes Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber al-Thani ; * August 30, 1959 ) was Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Qatar as a member of the royal family . He is married twice and has 6 children (4 sons and 2 daughters), alternative sources speak of 15 or 16 children. With an estimated private fortune of around $ 12 billion, he is one of the richest people on earth.

Life

Since 1992 he has been the foreign minister of Qatar and played an important role in the fall of the then emir in 1995 . He was considered a close confidante and ally of the emir Sheikh Hamad bin Chalifa Al Thani , who ruled from 1995 to 2013 , who then came to power and is his cousin.

He is also said to have close ties to the US government, especially to former US Vice President Dick Cheney . Marriage to his second, influential wife, Moza, turns out to be difficult. He is the second richest man in Qatar who is involved in numerous profitable businesses such as the airline Qatar Airways . The sheikh was the administrator of the Qatar Investment Authority until 2013 . In addition, as a private investor, he holds numerous investments in European companies. These include holdings in the Dexia Group, Quintet Private Bank, formerly KBL European Private Bankers via the Precision Capital holding, 3.05% in Deutsche Bank via Paramount Services Holdings (since 2014) and, since 2015, in the Spanish retail group El Corte Inglés . He pursues a future-oriented investment strategy that is intended to enable increased independence from crude oil.

On April 3, 2007, he became Prime Minister of Qatar, replacing his cousin and brother of the Emir of Qatar, Abdullah bin Chalifa Al Thani . However, he also retained the office of foreign minister as head of government. He is no longer a member of the cabinet appointed by the new Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani on June 26, 2013.

He was one of the signatories of the Amman Message ( Amman Message ).
