The Altice Arena is a multi-purpose hall in the municipality of Parque das Nações the Portuguese capital Lisbon . With a total capacity of up to 20,000 spectators, it is the largest event hall in the country. It was built for the World Expo 98 and opened under the name Pavilhão da Utopia . The name Oceanos e Utopías first given indicates the themed exhibition at Expo 98. The arena is ten minutes from Lisbon Humberto Delgado Airport.
history
The arena was designed by the architect Regino Cruz in collaboration with the architects SOM ( Skidmore, Owings and Merrill ). The interior is covered by a wooden roof structure. The two-story auditorium are arranged in a horseshoe shape. After Expo 98 the event hall was named Pavilhão Atlântico . In 2013, Portugal Telecom became the name sponsor of the building and named it after its product MEO . The hall was renamed Altice Arena on October 16, 2017 . It is named after the Dutch telecommunications company Altice Europe , which owns MEO and Portugal Telecom and has received the naming rights. The hall hosts events from 20 to 20,000 spectators. In addition to sporting events and concerts, u. a. Also conferences , meetings , trade fairs and seminars held in the arena. The hall was also the venue for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018 .
