Axwell Λ Ingrosso was in 2014 founded Swedish DJ - duo , consisting of the former Swedish House Mafia -members Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso . The duo Vargas & Lagola stood by as singer and songwriter . When they made their debut at the Governors Ball Music Festival in New York in June 2014 , they signed a recording deal with Def Jam Recordings . After releasing a commercially successful single with the song Sun Is Shining in 2015 , they landed a number one hit in 2017 with the song More Than You Know in Germany and Austria, among others. Due to the reunion of the Swedish House Mafia, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso decided to embed their project as a duo for the time being, as they now want to concentrate fully on the trio again.

history

Until 2013: Swedish House Mafia

The Swedish House Mafia project was a 2008 to 2013 active music project in the field of progressive house - music , which consists of the Swedish DJ and producer Sebastian Ingrosso, Axwell and Steve Angello was. On June 24, 2012, the group published on their website that there was one last tour (“One Last Tour”) and that the project would then be dissolved. This tour ended on March 24, 2013 as part of the Ultra Music Festival 2013 in Miami .

2014: Foundation and X4-EP

In 2014, Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso officially founded the Axwell Λ Ingrosso project. The foundation went hand in hand with the release of the X4-EP in February 2014. The tracks of the EP they presented in the broadcast of the popular BBC Radio 1 -Moderators Zane Lowe . With We Come, We Rave, We Love , the first single from the EP and the duo's first single were released in May 2014. In early June 2014, the duo had their first headlining appearances at the Governors Ball Music Festival in New York City and at the Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas . It was also announced in the summer of 2014 that the duo wanted to release an album.

Shortly after they signed their record deal with Def Jam Recordings in November 2014 , they released the single Something New , which was sung by Swedish singer-songwriter Vincent Pontare . This was used by Apple for advertising campaigns for their Beats by Dr. Dre used. With Something New , the duo entered the single charts of numerous countries. In addition to top 100 placements in Sweden, Spain and Great Britain, the song reached number one on the US and Japanese Billboard dance charts. Furthermore, a chart entry in various German-speaking countries was only just missed. In addition to the official progressive house version, a remix by German deep house producer Robin Schulz was also released , which ensured further popularity.

2015: Sun Is Shining

In 2015 Axwell Λ Ingrosso released the single On My Way , to which Salem Al Fakir contributed the vocals . The song received a lot of positive reviews and was able to draw attention in particular through the official music video. The song forms the second successful single chart placement after Something New .

Parallel to the release of On My Way , the duo also performed at the Ultra Music Festival 2015 in Miami, where they presented their upcoming single Sun Is Shining , which, like its predecessors, was created in collaboration with Al Fakir and Pontare. They already received outstanding feedback for the song in advance. It also received a lot of promotion through its use in the TV commercial for the H&M summer collection. The spot received millions of clicks on YouTube after just one month. Her live performance with Sun Is Shining also had a similar number of clicks . After the release on June 12, 2015, the track developed into her greatest success to date. It reached number one in the official Swedish singles charts within a very short time and also moved into the top 100 in many other countries.

Beginning in December 2015 published a remix of their debut single Something New at the new title This Time in which also rapper Pusha T participated. They donated the proceeds from the song to the “ United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees ”, which will provide assistance to the immigrants affected by the refugee crisis in Europe from 2015 onwards .

2016–2017: commercialization of the style

Together with Pharrell Williams , the song Dream Bigger was created in the fall of 2015 . The electro house track was released as an instrumental version on December 31, 2015. In response to the high demand, the vocal version with Williams was released as a single in the spring of the following year. At the same time, both performers also released solo productions.

In May 2016 they released Thinking About You, a single stylistically oriented towards radio-suitable pop music. This was created in collaboration with Richard Archer and Karin Park. The track got her into the Swedish singles charts for the fifth time. Three months later, an official festival version of the song was released as a separate single.

On February 10, 2017, the song I Love You , which was created in collaboration with Kid Ink , was released. The track is based on a similar scheme as Thinking About You and also contains the violin sample from the song Bitter Sweet Symphony by The Verve . In Sweden the song reached the top 10 and double platinum status. Furthermore, the track reached a placement in the British singles charts.

On May 24, 2017, the duo released a four-track EP entitled More Than You Know . The lead single of the same name, sung by the Swedish musician Kristoffer Fogelmark , became a commercial success over the summer. In this context, the track reached number two in Sweden and, as the first Axwell Λ Ingrosso single, number one in Germany and Austria. The single achieved similar placements in ten other countries. After just a few weeks, the single was awarded platinum for 50,000 units sold in Italy and double platinum for 80,000 units in Sweden. In Germany it was awarded a diamond in September 2019 for over one million units sold. This makes More Than You Know one of the best-selling singles in Germany . Awards in other countries followed. Particularly striking was the future house and dance pop style, with which the song stands out from the rest of the funk and progressive house influenced songs on the EP.

Track Dreamer , which has been expected since October 2016, was announced as the next single on November 30, 2017. The release took place on December 8, 2017. The vocals come from the Canadian singer-songwriter Trevor Guthrie . For the single release, the entire song was reworked, with the notes, which were actually based on their original Swedish House Mafia style, converted into a more -than-you-know- like drop. At the same time, they released their debut album, which had already been announced in 2014. This is called More Than You Know and contains all of the duo's singles that have been released to date.

Surname

In an interview with BBC Radio 1 presenter Pete Tong Axwell and Ingrosso explained the meaning of the symbol Λ, a stylized lambdas . It symbolizes team spirit and should become the new symbol for solidarity. They also noted that the traditional "&" symbol was too boring for them.

Members

• Sebastian Ingrosso (born April 20, 1983 in Nacka , Sweden as Sebastian Carmine Ingrosso ) grew up in Stockholm together with the third Swedish House Mafia member Steve Angello . Through his father, who ran his own record label, he made the leap into the DJ scene. When he founded his own label Refune Records in 2003, he also got to know Axwell.

• Axwell (born December 18, 1977 in Lund , Sweden as Axel Christofer Hedfors ) began to work as a drummer in his band in the music scene at the age of nine. However, he did not succeed in this for the time being. in 1990 he bought some DJ equipment and in the early 2000s he had his breakthrough in house music.
