Dreamer ( English "dreamers") is a song by the Swedish DJ - and producer - duo Axwell Λ Ingrosso . The release took place on December 8, 2017 on the record labels " Universal Music " and " Kobalt Music ". The song is a follow-up to the song More Than You Know , which became a commercial success in the summer of 2017. Her debut album More Than You Know was released parallel to the song .
background
The song was written by the two producers Axel Hedfors, Sebastian Ingrosso, the project songwriters Salem Al Fakir and Vincent Pontare and Elof Loelv. Axwell and Ingrosso played the instruments to be heard together with Jens Siverstedt and ultimately produced the final version. Recording engineer Tom Hall supported them with mastering . Canadian singer and songwriter Trevor Guthrie took care of the vocals . The main release took over the record label " Kobalt Music " and " Universal Music ". The rights to the song are owned by "Axwell Music AB" and "Refune Music Ltd."
The song premiered in October 2016 at the Amsterdam Music Festival. As a result of the first play, many recordings of this appeared on several streaming platforms and some of them were able to achieve over a million clicks. Due to the style, which is very similar to the previous project by Axwell and Sebastian Ingrosso " Swedish House Mafia ", the song received a lot of attention even before it was released.
In the course of 2017, Dreamer moved more and more into the background during the duo's live performances, until Axwell announced on November 30, 2017 via “ Twitter ” that the track would be released for Friday, December 8, 2017.
A few days after the announcement, Axwell gave an insight into the track on “ Instagram ”, which obviously differed from the original version. A second premiere announced for December 6, 2017 confirmed the new edition of the song. In the end, it turned out that the progressive house-heavy sounds were modified to a style that resembled the character traits of the previous single More Than You Know . The day before the release, the duo published a first official preview of the song on their social media profiles.
Artwork
At the same time as the single release was announced, Axwell also unveiled the single cover. It was designed by Sara Shakeel and shows the X-ray image of a human skull. In this two flying saucers can be seen from which rainbow colors emanate, which symbolize the dreams discussed in the song. The background is based on black color.
Musical and content
The song is based on 4/4 time and the tempo is 128 bpm . The track is introduced by a melody played by a piano. After two chords, the first verse begins, during which the instrumental changes. A pre-chorus also sounds before the chorus begins. This differs from the chorus in the slightly different text and mood of the singer. The bridge to the drop starts very calmly and is focused on the piano-like sounds. The progressive house drop, which is strongly based on the sound of the bridge, is initiated by two repeated lines from the chorus.
The text thematizes the lyrical self's view of the relationship to another person. In the first stanza it clarifies a fact at the beginning until it mentions in the last line that it could be the guiding light through this situation. In the pre-chorus as well as in the chorus, it continues to ask the other person to harmonize with him in order to dream together.

reception
criticism
The song received very positive feedback in advance. The main reason for this was that it was stylistically based on the main genre of the Swedish House Mafia. Both the vocals and the instrumental should be reminiscent of the song Don't You Worry Child . The revision of the song aroused different opinions. On the one hand, the new style was described as very modern, on the other hand it would have lost its character. Timo Büschleb from “ Dance Charts ” spoke positively of the old version by calling it nostalgic. He pronounced the new version a strong hit potential:
"Dreamer" unfortunately lost all nostalgic aspect with the redesign and thus in a certain way also lost the goose skin factors. Guthrie's voice is convincing all along the line and sounds incredibly safe and familiar. The drop has now been designed in a very modern way and is directly connected to "More Than You Know", making it a hot contender for another success of the duo. "
Commercial win
Within the first 24 hours, Dreamer reached over 100,000 streams on the Spotify streaming platform and moved into the upper half of the chart for several download portals. It was also able to achieve a position in the official single charts in several European countries, including Germany, Austria and Switzerland.

Music video
An official music video has not been released for Dreamer . In contrast, the promotional and label channel “Proximity” published an official lyric video parallel to the single release. This shows the lyrics on a dark background with colored animations around the song lines. The lambda symbol can sometimes be seen floating through the image. After three weeks, the lyric video had over 13 million views. The same channel announced on Facebook that they would try to get permission to upload the Progressive House version.
On January 19, 2018, the duo released the official music video. This is based on the visualization as seen in the background during their live performances when they played the song. Here two people can be seen floating underwater in their clothes. Apparently the water is in a glass container from which they are trying to escape. After they have found each other through a light and undress, they manage to get to the surface of the water.
