Sensation “Source of Light” on April 13, 2013 in Italy

The sensation is an event in the field of electronic dance music . It is organized by the Dutch company ID&T and has so far taken place in 34 countries on five continents with a total of well over a million visitors.

The first sensation took place in 2000 . As in the following years, it was held in the Amsterdam Arena . In 2002 the sensation was split into Sensation White and Sensation Black. Since 2008 the Sensation White is only called Sensation , the Sensation Black is only called Black .

The sensation is regarded as the largest and one of the most successful dance - events . The sensation's success concept is based, in addition to the idea of a uniformly dressed audience, on the combination of star DJs , elaborate light and laser shows as well as decoration and pyrotechnics . The voice of MC Gee accompanies the event, he makes announcements and animates the audience.

Sensation (until 2007 Sensation White)

Sensation White 2006
Guests dressed in white

For the sensation it is a condition that all guests appear in white clothes. Other colored decorations on items of clothing are permitted, provided they are not too large. The motto of the event is "Be part of the night - dress in white". The music spectrum consists of house and electro . The later the evening gets, the harder and faster the sounds and rhythms get. The sensation premieres annually on the first Saturday in July in Amsterdam . The celebrations usually take place from around 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., the 40,000 available tickets are usually sold out within a few hours.

In recent years, trance , house and electro DJs such as Chuckie , Martin Garrix , Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike , Hardwell , Nervo, Fedde Le Grand , Nicky Romero , Mark Knight , Riva Starr , Paul van Dyk , Tiësto , Armin van Buuren , Ferry Corsten , Marco V , Erick Morillo , David Guetta and Tom Novy .

With the lineup for 2006 in Germany and 2007 in the Netherlands , ID&T moved away from the conventional mix of house and trance . For the first time, there was no longer a DJ from the trance sector , which was partly met with severe criticism in the scene.

2008 can be seen as the year in which the international tour of individual Sensation editions began. From then on, the shows that started in Amsterdam (except "The Legacy") toured in over 34 countries and cities. Including Düsseldorf , Santiago de Chile , Hasselt (previously in Antwerp ), Budapest , Prague , Riga , Saint Petersburg , Vilnius , Wroclaw , Copenhagen , Madrid , Bangkok , New York and Dubai . In contrast to all other shows, the sensation in Dubai does not take place inside a closed stadium, but as the only open-air stadium.

On February 15, 2017, the organizer announced that the last sensation will take place on July 8, 2017 in the Amsterdam ArenA under the motto "The Final". The international tour of individual Sensation editions will continue, however.

On December 10, 2019, a teaser on the organizer's Facebook page announced an event taking place on July 4, 2020 in the Johan Cruyff Arena in Amsterdam under the motto It's Time To Go Beyond . Advance sales started on the same day.
