biography

Tony Carreira decided to pursue an artistic career in 1988. A studio recording for the first album was made with the French producer Patrick Oliver. In the same year he took part in the Prémio Nacional de Música competition in Figueira da Foz with the song Uma Noite a Teu Lado , one of eight songs to choose from for the Festival da Canção that year. The song was released as a single by Transmédia .

In 1990 a record deal was signed with Discossete for three years. The first CD for the record label was recorded in 1991 with the title É Verão Portugal . The song Meu Herói Pequeno , dedicated to Carreira's first son, has been played many times on the radio, especially by the presenter Carlos Ribeiro . It became a great success.

In 1992 the CD Canta Canta Portugal was published, but without any notable success, which led to the end of the contract with the publisher.

In 1993 a contract was signed with the Espacial label . The CD Português de Alma e Coração was created. One of the songs on the album is A Minha Guitarra , which again became a huge hit. In the same year he met Dino Meiral , with whom he became friends. He dedicated Adeus Amigo to the popular singer , which was published the year after his death.

The song Ai Destino , written in 1995, became a huge hit and marks the romantic style that characterizes his work.

In 1996 the album Adeus Até Um Dia was released . He also took part in the recording of Mãe Querida that year, in which many other singers (for example Sérgio e Madi ) also participated.

The following year, 1997, the new album Coração Perdido was released . For the title Sonhos de Menino a video was shot in his native dialect Armadouro .

A new year brings the new album, Sonhador, Sonhador , and completes the cycle of the first ten career years.

1999 marked a turning point for his career. He began to devote himself more to ballads. The album Dois Corações Sozinhos was released , which contains songs such as Depois de Ti (Mais Nada) . He was honored with the TVI award for the best male interpretation and the best romantic song.

In January 2000 he performed at the Olympia in Paris. His show was recorded, which was reflected in the edition of the album Tony Carreira ao vivo no Olympia . It was in the Portuguese list of best selling albums for 54 weeks, including 37 in first place. In 2001 he made another guest appearance at the Olympia with great success.

In 2002 the singer gave an exciting concert at the Coliseu dos Recreios in Lisbon under the name Cantor de Sonhos .

The 15-year career anniversary (2003) was celebrated with a big concert in the Pavilhão Atlântico in Lisbon. The concert was released on CD and DVD under the name 15 anos de Canções - Ao Vivo No Pavilhão Atlântico and received triple platinum.

A new album with unreleased songs was released in 2004. Titles from it are played particularly often on Vidas Proibidas, a Portuguese telenovela .

In May 2006 he gave a new concert in the Pavilhão Atlântico, which was sold out weeks earlier. That same year, in September, a concert was given in Carcavelos in support of the local volunteer fire brigade .

In mid-December 2006, a new album entitled A Vida Que Eu Escolhi , a CD consisting of original songs, was released for his fans after the presumably high point of his career as a poet and singer of love songs. This album was hugely successful, going double platinum in pre-sales and seven times platinum in 2007.

As part of his 20-year career, he presented himself to the public in March 2008 with two consecutive concerts at the Pavilhão Atlântico, both of which were sold out.

In 2008 plagiarism allegations were made against him. The most sensational one was the Depois de Ti (Mais Nada) case , which was plagiarized by Después de Ti, Qué? by Cristian Castro , a Mexican singer. In addition to this, questions were raised about the song Sonhos de Menino, which is said to be a plagiarism of L'Idiot by the singer Hervé Vilard and Esta falta de ti , which is said to be a plagiarism of Toi qui manques à ma vie by the singer Natasha St. Pier.

In addition, a new album was released in 2008 with the title O Homem Que Sou , which was again successful and reached number 1 in the Portuguese charts, which was awarded seven times platinum.

In 2014 Tony Carreira released the album Nos fiançailles France Portugal , on which well-known French-speaking singers such as Natasha St-Pier , Lisa Angell, or Anggun participate .

Tony Carreira is divorced and has three children. The sons David and Mickael are successful singers themselves. Daughter Sara appeared in public as a singer in 2013 with her father.
