history

According to historical sources, the first settlements of Lagoa were built on the edge of a small lake or pond ( Port .: Lagoa), which was later drained to gain arable and building land.

The Algarve region was conquered by the Moors when they conquered the Iberian Peninsula in the 8th century and ousted the Visigoths. When the area was recaptured from the north by the Christians ( Reconquista ) in the 13th century , it was integrated into the Portuguese Union of States. Lagoa was part of the area ruled from Silves . On 16 January 1773 boundaries of the new county (concelho) Lagoa by decree of King were Joseph I. set. Lagoa was elevated to a city ( Cidade ) in 2001 .

beaches

Lagoa lies on the steep coast of the Algarve; between the rocks are individual bays with sandy beaches, including Praia do Barranquinho, Praia de Albandeira and Praia da Estaquinha.
