The Coliseu dos Recreios is a concert hall in the Portuguese capital, Lisbon . The Coliseu is located in the Pena district on Rua das Portas de Santo Antão . Today there are regular concerts in the Coliseu again.

history

The Coliseu dos Recreios was built between 1888 and 1890 according to plans by the French engineers Goulard and Bauer.

It replaced the Price Circus, which was demolished when the Avenida da Liberdade was widened . The grand opening - with the facade still unfinished - took place on August 14, 1890 with a performance of Soupés Boccaccio .

The house remained the city's most important venue until its demise in the late 1980s. In 1993 the city council, in cooperation with the owners, made efforts to revitalize the building.
