Maria Rita
Maria Rita (actually Maria Rita Mariano ; born September 9, 1977 in São Paulo ) is a Brazilian pop singer .
Life
Maria Rita is the daughter of Elis Regina and César Camargo Mariano . She started her career at the age of 24. Her debut album Maria Rita , released in 2003, sold 500,000 copies in Brazil. For this album she received the Latin Grammy in three categories: Discovery of the Year, MPB Best Disc and Best Brazilian Singer.
She lived in the United States of America for eight years, studying social communication, journalism and Latin American studies at the University of New York. She can also be heard with Milton Nascimento on the production Pieta , where they sing a duet in sadness . For this, too, she received a Latin Grammy in 2003. With the Uruguayan musician Jorge Drexler she recorded the piece Soledad on his CD 12 segundos de oscuridad .
