5 Seconds of Summer is an Australian pop-rock - band from Sydney .
history
5 Seconds of Summer was founded in early 2011 by Luke Robert Hemmings, Michael Gordon Clifford and Calum Thomas Hood, who attended Northwest Christian College in Sydney together . They started uploading covers of popular songs to YouTube . Her cover of Chris Brown's and Justin Bieber's hit Next 2 You has reached over 3,600,000 views to date. Before their first appearance in December 2011, they brought in Ashton Fletcher Irwin, who came from their mutual circle of friends, as drummer. Since then, the composition of the band has not changed. They achieved over 4 million views on YouTube in a short time and built a large fan base on social networks such as Twitter and Facebook .
In 2012, the band attracted some interest from major music labels and publishers and eventually signed a deal with Sony ATV Music Publishing . Although they continued to receive no support other than on Facebook and Twitter, their first musical release, an EP called Somewhere New , hit # 3 on the iTunes charts in Australia and made it to the top 20 in New Zealand and Sweden .
They achieved great international success when Louis Tomlinson from the British-Irish boy band One Direction tweeted a link to the YouTube video of their song Gotta Get Out . In that tweet he mentioned that he had been a fan of 5 Seconds of Summer for a while. 5 Seconds of Summer attracted further attention when they released their single Out of My Limit on November 19, 2012 and Niall Horan , also a member of the boy band One Direction, tweeted a link to their video, which received over 100,000 views within 24 hours received.
5 Seconds of Summer spent the second half of 2012 writing new songs with the help of Christian Lo Russo and Joel Chapman of the Australian band Amy Meredith. With them they wrote two more songs for their Somewhere New EP: Beside You and Unpredictable .
In December 2012 the boys embarked on a songwriting trip to London, where they worked with various well-known artists including McFly , Roy Stride from Scouting for Girls , Nick Hodgson from Kaiser Chiefs , Jamie Scott, Jake Gosling, Steve Robson and James Bourne from Busted worked together.
The EPs She Looks So Perfect , Don't Stop , Amnesia and Good Girls were released in 2014.
5 Seconds of Summer released their debut album entitled 5 Seconds of Summer in June 2014 . The album was released in the US on July 22, 2014. It reached number 1 not only in Australia and New Zealand, but also in the USA and made it into the top 10 in many other countries. Don't Stop and Amnesia were successful singles , the latter sold over a million times in the USA alone. At the end of the year the fourth official song was released, Good Girls , which also made it into the international charts again.
With She's Kinda Hot , the next new song was released in July 2015. It was again successful in many countries and announced the second album Sounds Good Feels Good in the same year. The album was released on October 23, 2015.
With Girls Talk Boys , a new single by the band was released on July 15, 2016. This is included on the soundtrack for the new Ghostbusters film.
In 2016 5 Seconds Of Summer also completed a world tour called Sounds Live Feels Live , during which they gave concerts in Europe, Asia and the USA.
They also recorded the track Take What You Want with the Japanese rock band One Ok Rock , which can be heard on their album.
On February 22nd, 2018 the band released the song Want You Back and announced a new tour for 2018.
