One Ok Rock (spelling ONE OK ROCK) is a Japanese rock band that is under contract with the Amuse agency . It was founded in 2005. Its members are Taka , Toru, Ryota and Tomoya.
history
2005–2006: early beginnings and formation
During his high school days Tōru Yamashita came up with the idea of forming a band. He asked his friend and also a member of the hip-hop dance group Heads to learn bass guitar. He also asked his schoolmate, Alex Onizawa, if he would like to join the band. Tomo, Toru's classmate, who left the band in 2006 to devote himself to acting, played drums. During this time Takahiro Morita (Taka) was still a member of the band Chivalry of Music, but dissatisfied with this and then switched to One Ok Rock after an offer Tōru. Tomoya Kanki was already in another band, but like Taka he was dissatisfied with his situation. He joined in 2006, but did not become an official member until their 2007 debut.
The band name One Ok Rock was derived from the English one o'clock , which was the time they rehearsed. Since there is no difference in Japanese between the L and the R, they changed o'clock to o'crock and o'krock, which then became One Ok Rock.
2007–2009: debut album and progress
Her debut song Naihi Shinsho landed in 48th place on the Oricon charts and sold 15,000 times. Her second single, Yume Yume , reached 43rd place. In 2007 her debut album Zeitakubyō followed. Then their first tour took place and they played in some cities in Japan. Shortly thereafter, in May 2008, their second album, Beam of Light, was released. In an interview with Rockin'On Magazine in June 2012, One Ok Rock said they didn't count the album as an album, but rather as a learning curve for the band. When they were working on the album, they weren't in the right mood and only created the album because they thought they had to do it. That is also the reason why they did not perform a song by Beam of Light live. They planned to release two albums a year and so in November 2008 Kanjō Effect was released. Shortly after Beam of Light was released, they held a concert in Shibuya AX and released it on DVD.
In April 2009, Alex was arrested on charges of sexually molesting a 21-year-old student on a train. He admitted what he had done and the case was closed. As a result, the release of her song Around the World Shounen - the theme song of the television series God Hand Teru - planned for May 6th - nationwide tour was canceled. In May 2009 it was announced that One Ok Rock would continue even without Alex, who returned to the USA. Toru took over the lead guitar and adapted the arrangements to the only guitar part.
2010: new formation
As a band with now four members, they released the single Kanzen Kankaku Dreamer on February 3, 2010. It reached 9th place in the Oricon charts. Their fourth studio album, Niche Syndrome , was released on June 9, 2010 and their next single, Answer is Near, on February 16, 2011.
One Ok Rock released their first double-A single Re: make / No Scared on July 20, 2011, which was used as the theme song for the video game Black Rock Shooter . Her 5th album, Zankyō Reference, was released on October 5, 2011. Its first single, The Beginning , on August 22, 2012, was the theme song of the real-life adaptation of the anime and manga series Rurouni Kenshin used and reached 5th place on the Oricon charts.
The single Deeper Deeper / Nothing Helps was released on January 9, 2013 and reached the 2nd place on the Japanese Oricon charts. The piece Nothing Helps was used for the Japanese version of the video game DmC: Devil May Cry .
2013: Outside Asia
In October 2013 the band had their first concerts outside Asia, namely five in Europe, four of which were sold out within minutes. In February 2014 they held two concerts in the USA, in New York and Los Angeles , and in May in Philadelphia and Toronto . They later performed at Rock on the Range in Columbus - their first festival outside of Japan. In June and July they played on the Vans Warped Tour 2014 , which took place in 18 cities in North America.
From May 16, the documentary film Fool Cool Rock by director Hiroyuki Nakano was shown on her Asia and Europe tour for four weeks in selected cinemas in Japan.
On January 12, 2014, their album producer John Feldmann tweeted that One Ok Rock was about to record a new album. A single was the theme song Mighty Long Fall of the two Rurouni-Kenshin films. The corresponding album 35xxxv was released on February 11, 2015.
