All Time Low is a pop-punk band formed in 2003 in Towson (a suburb of Baltimore ) . The group consists of singer and rhythm guitarist Alex Gaskarth , lead guitarist and backing vocalist Jack Barakat , bassist and backing vocalist Zack Merrick, and drummer Rian Dawson. The band name comes from the song Head On Collision by the punk band New Found Glory .

The band started as a high school project and in 2004 the first EP The Three Words to Remember in Dealing with the End was released , and in 2005 the debut album The Party Scene on the local independent label Emerald Moon Records . While the group was on a concert tour, Hopeless Records became aware of All Time Low and signed them. Three more EPs were released through the label, as well as a live DVD, five albums and several singles. The 2011 album Dirty Work was released on Interscope Records .

The band went gold with the single Dear Maria, Count Me In - released in 2008 - three years after its release, selling 500,000 units in the United States . In April 2015, the song finally received the platinum award . The album appeared in 2009 Nothing Personal received in the United Kingdom , the Silver record of 60,000 units sold.

They have headlined several major festivals including the Warped Tour , Soundwave Festival and Reading and Leeds Festival. In addition, All Time Low played at Rock am Ring and Rock im Park (both in 2013).

history

2003–2006: Foundation and debut album

The group was formed in Towson , a suburb of Baltimore , Maryland , by Alex Gaskarth ( vocals , rhythm guitar ), Jack Barakat ( backing vocals , lead guitar ), Zack Merrick ( electric bass , backing vocals) and Rian Dawson ( drums ). All four musicians were still in high school at this point . At first, pieces by the band Blink-182 were covered. The first self-written pieces were pop and emo .

In 2004, the local independent label Emerald Moon Records noticed the band and signed All Time Low. In the same year, the debut EP The Three Words to Remember in Dealing with the End was released on the label. About a year later, in July 2005, the debut album The Party Scene followed , which was also released on Emerald Moon Records. Before the musicians graduated in 2006, the band was able to sign a record deal with the Hopeless Records label . In an interview they said that at times they had time problems to bring the school and the music under one roof. However, the EP Put Up or Shut Up was released in July 2006, which was able to position itself in the Independent Charts and the Heatseeker Charts , both of which are determined by Billboard magazine .

In late 2006, the musicians began touring excessively to promote the EP. Then the quartet went to the studio to work on the second album.

2007–2008: Second album: So Wrong, It's Right

The group spent the summer of 2007 on the Warped Tour for the first time , where the group played on the Smartpunk Stage . At the end of 2007 the group played for the first time in the UK as the opening act for the Plain White T’s . In September 2007, the second studio album and Hopeless Records debut So Wrong, It's Right was released . The album went straight to number 62 on the US charts . The second single from the album, Dear Maria, Count Me In , which was released in 2008, is the group's first single to reach a chart. In the Pop 100 charts , the single landed at number 82. In 2011, the single was awarded the gold record for 500,000 units sold. On April 14, 2015, the song was awarded a platinum record .

In early 2008 All Time Low ended their first headlining tour, the Manwhores and Open Sores Tour , which was supported by Every Avenue , Mayday Parade and Just Surrender. After the release of So Wrong, It's Right , the group quickly gained popularity, with the band making their TRL debut on February 12, 2008 . The band could also be found in the playlists of MTV ( Discover and Download , Big Ten ), Music Choice ( Fresh Crops ) and MTV Hits .

On March 7, 2008, the group had Jimmy Kimmel Live! her television debut. After that, the group played at the mtvU Woodie Awards . From March to May 2008 All Time Low co-headlined the AP Tour with The Rocket Summer , which was supported by The Matches , Sonny Moore and Forever the Sickest Kids . In May there was also an appearance at the Give It a Name Festival. Also in May, All Time Low co-headlined a concert tour through the United Kingdom with Cobra Starship . The Shortest Tour Ever followed in July 2008 . As support came Hit the Lights , Valencia and There for Tomorrow on. After that, the group toured again on the Warped Tour. The year 2008 ended for All Time Low with the Compromising of Integrity, Morality & Principles in Exchange for Money Tour with Mayday Parade , The Maine and Every Avenue as support.

In December 2008, All Time Low was voted "Band of the Year" by Alternative Press magazine and landed on the magazine's cover in January 2009.

2009-2010: Third album: Nothing Personal

In early 2009, All Time Low announced in an interview with British magazine Rock Sound that the group was working on new material for their third album. They also announced that they are being supported by several musicians and producers in the songwriting process. During the writing process, the recording work began in the studio in January 2009. A month later, all the work had already been completed. The first single Weightless was released in March 2009. On July 7th, the third studio album Nothing Personal was released . However, it was offered for free download stream a week before its official release on MTV's The Leak . The Billboard magazine predicted that Nothing Personal with about 60 thousand to 75 thousand records sold for the first time in the top 10 of the official US charts could enter. In fact, the album went straight to number 4 on the charts and ultimately sold 63,000 times within the first week of sales.

In spring 2009, All Time Low was one of several supporting acts for the Believers Never Die Tour Part Deux for Fall Out Boy . Other supporting acts were Metro Station , Cobra Starship and Hey Monday . In June All Time Low toured Australia and Japan for the first time . Also present were Set Your Goals . All Time Low also played ten concerts with We the Kings , Cartel and Days Difference. The group was one of the headliners of the Warped Tour and played on the Voodoo Experience after this concert tour . In autumn 2009, All Time Low toured for the first time as a headliner through Europe . The Audition and The Friday Night Boys appeared as opening acts. All Time Low were the first to headline The Glamor Kills Tour , which started on October 15, 2009 and ended on December 6, 2009. In November 2009, the group announced that they had signed with Interscope Records . A month later, the group won the Rock on Request Awards for Best Pop-Punk Band . Two more EPs were released in 2009: The first EP, Live from MySpace Secret Shows , was released in August, the second EP, Live Session , followed in November.

On May 25, 2010, the group's first live album was released under the name Straight to DVD . This was released through Hopeless Records . A concert of the group in New York was recorded for this album . The EP MTV Unplugged: All Time Low was released on Hopeless Records in January 2010 . In December 2012, Nothing Personal in the UK for 60,000 records sold with the Silver record excellent.

2011: Fourth album: Dirty Work

In January and February 2010, All Time Low returned to the UK and Ireland to headline Kerrang! To tour Relentless Tour with The Blackout , My Passion and Young Guns . This was followed by a few shows on mainland Europe. In late February and early March the band played for the first time at the Soundwave Festival in Australia . In May and June 2010, All Time Low co-headlined the Bamboozle Roadshows with Boys Like Girls , Third Eye Blind and LMFAO . The group played at the Reading and Leeds Festivals with Good Charlotte , Forever the Sickest Kids , Cartel and Simple Plan, among others . In the fall of 2010, All Time Low was the main act of the Small Package Tour , which supported A Rocket to the Moon and City (Comma) State. Before You Exit played the opening act at several concerts on this tour.

On March 15, 2010, Painting Flowers was released, a song from the soundtrack Almost Alice , which was created for the 2010 reinterpretation of the film Alice in Wonderland by director Tim Burton . The group started a little later with the work on the fourth studio album, which was to be released via Interscope Records and thus represents the major debut of the band. Demos of the album were made available in advance on an unknown website in August 2010 (“ leaked ”). In a later interview, the musicians announced which pieces would be on the album and which would not. The fourth album, Dirty Work , was finally released on June 7, 2011. Originally, the album was planned to be released in March. Due to the label change, however, the release date has been postponed by several months. In Australia and Canada , the album reached number 13 in the charts in the UK rose Dirty Work one on the 20th Place.

In the spring of 2011, the group played the Dirty Work Tour with Yellowcard , Hey Monday and The Summer Set to promote their album. In the UK, the group was supported by Young Guns . All Time Low spent the summer on the Gimme Summer Ya Love Tour , which was accompanied by Mayday Parade , We Are the In Crowd , The Starting Line , Brighter and The Cab . In September, the group was to tour Australia as part of the Soundwave Revolution , but this tour was canceled, so All Time Low played a mini-tour, the Counter Revolution , through Australia. In the fall the band ended the The Rise and Fall Of My Pants tour , which was accompanied by The Ready Set , He Is We and Paradise Fears . In Canada , the group was supported by Simple Plan , Marianas Trench and These Kids Wear Crowns.

2012–2014: Fifth album: Don't Panic

In January 2012 the band again played a concert tour through the United Kingdom. The tour was accompanied by We Are the In Crowd and The Maine . Since many concerts on this tour were sold out, additional concerts were added. Between June and August the group played again on the Warped Tour and the Reading and Leeds Festival .

In May 2012, All Time Low announced that they had terminated their contract with Interscope Records and released the song The Reckless and the Brave on June 1, 2012 as a free download on the band's official website. The quartet also announced that they are working on new material for their fifth studio album, which will be released later this year. On July 3, 2012, the band signed a new record deal with their former label Hopeless Records and announced the new album for the second half of the year. On August 10, 2012, the pre-order phase for the new album started. At the same time, the Rockshow at the End of the World Tour was announced. The fifth album, Don't Panic , was finally released worldwide on October 9, 2012. The second single For Baltimore was released on August 24, 2012, Somewhere in Neverland - another single - was leaked. The band released the song Outlines on September 27th via MTV . On October 2, 2009, the album was released completely as a stream on the label's YouTube channel, including the lyrics of all tracks.

After All Time Low had completed the Warped Tour completely, another concert tour followed with the Rockshow at the End of the World Tour , on which the group was accompanied by The Summer Set , The Downtown Fiction and Hit the Lights . In late August 2012, the group headlined three shows in the UK and the Republic of Ireland . Concerts in Europe followed , including support shows as the opening act for Green Day in Germany . In February and March 2013 the band played again at the Soundwave Festival in Australia . In June 2013, All Time Low played for the first time at the sister festivals Rock am Ring and Rock im Park , both on the main stage.

In September 2013, Don't Panic was released under the title Don't Panic: It's Longer Now! reissued. The new edition includes four newly recorded songs as well as four acoustic versions of the pieces, The Reckless and the Brave , Somewhere in Neverland , For Baltimore and Backseat Serenade . On September 2, 2013, the only single release of the new version of the album, A Love Like War , was released. In this song you can hear Vic Fuentes , singer of the band Pierce the Veil , as a guest singer. On September 23, 2013 All Time Low toured with Pierce the Veil as the opening act for A Day to Remember on the House Party Tour through North America .

2014–2016: Sixth studio album: Future Hearts

In June 2014 it was announced that the group would start working on a new studio album. The group was nominated in several categories at the Alternative Press Music Awards and received an award for A Love Like War as song of the year and the award for their social commitment at Skate4Cancer . On September 29, 2014, the group announced that they had moved into the studio with producer John Feldmann and began working on the album. The first single, Something's Gotta Give , was officially launched on January 12, 2015 on BBC Radio 1 .

Between February 9 and 14, 2015, the group played a co-headlining arena tour with You Me at Six , which included five concerts in the UK . In March 2015, a short tour followed through several cities in Europe, including Cologne , which ended with a performance in the Wembley Arena . The concert at Wembley Arena was to be recorded by a camera crew for a live DVD.

Beginning in January 2015 were Alex Gaskarth and Jack Barakat of Alternative Press as moderators of the second Alternative Press Music Awards announced. The event took place on the premises of the Quicken Loans Arena . The band also won the Fandom of the Year award together with the Hustler fan club . Rian Dawson was named best drummer and Zack Merrick was named best bass player. In April and May 2015, the group toured the United States with Tonight Alive , Issues and State Champs as part of the Future Hearts Tour. In August the group played at the Reading and Leeds Festival . In late 2015, the group toured the States again with Sleeping with Sirens and One Ok Rock . In February 2016 the group played a concert tour through the UK, which was accompanied by Good Charlotte .

2016: Straight to DVD II and new music

On January 12, 2016 it was announced that new music was being worked on.

On July 7, 2016, the band announced their second live album, Straight To DVD II: Past, Present and Future Hearts , which again includes a documentary, a live CD and a concert recording from Wembley Stadium from March 2015. The DVD was released on September 9, 2016. On September 2, 2016, the band released the song Take Cover to, according to Gaskarth, complete the Future Hearts cycle. The single is part of Straight To DVD II.

From August to the beginning of October 2016, All Time Low accompanied the band blink-182 on their US tour.

2017–2019: Seventh studio album: Last Young Renegade and Auszeit

On February 17, 2017, the first single from the new album, Dirty Laundry , was released. It was also announced that the band will be under contract with the music label Fueled by Ramen in the future . From February to April 2017, All Time Low toured Europe, Oceania and Japan.

On February 24, 2017, the album's title, Last Young Renegade , was announced. The album was released on June 2, 2017 and contains ten songs. The Canadian indie band Tegan and Sara has a guest appearance on the song Ground Control . In advance, the songs Last Young Renegade , Life Of The Party and Nice2KnoU were released every few weeks . In the summer of 2017, the Young Renegades Tour followed through the United States, Asia and Europe.

On November 1, 2017, the Good Times music video was released, again directed by Patrick Tracy. After the end of the Last Young Renegade era, the band released the two songs Everything Is Fine and Birthday in 2018 . Based on Everything Is Fine, the band released a wine collection in 2019 under the name Everything Is Wine .

According to their own statement, the band took a short break in 2019. The band members got involved in other projects, lead singer Gaskarth founded the trash pop project Simple Creatures together with Mark Hoppus , the singer of the band Blink-182 . Guitarist Jack Barakat released songs together with Kevin Fisher with the WhoHurtYou project . In May 2019 the band headlined the Slam Dunk Festival . On November 8, 2019, All Time Low released a new recording of the album under the name It's Still Nothing Personal: A Ten Year Tribute on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of their album Nothing Personal . Together with the album, a documentary was published online that shows the history of Nothing Personal.

Since 2020: Eighth studio album: Wake Up, Sunshine

After the Everything Is Wine wine collection, the band collaborated with the Full Tilt Brewery in Baltimore in January 2020. This is how the Beer Maria beer was created based on the song Dear Maria, Count Me In. On February 19, 2020, the band announced their eighth studio album, Wake Up, Sunshine , and released their first single, Some Kind of Disaster. The song Sleeping In followed a little later . Due to the COVID-19 pandemic , the songs Getaway Green, Melancholy Kaleidoscope, Trouble Is and Wake Up, Sunshine were also released before the album was released. The album itself was released on April 3, 2020 together with the single Monsters , on which the American hip-hop singer Blackbear sang.

Others

The band supports the fashion company Glamor Kills Clothing , where guitarist Jack Barakat and singer Alex Gaskarth also run their own lines called JAGK and AWG . Bassist Zack Merrick runs a fashion label called Amerrickan .

On October 24, 2014 it was announced that the musicians would get a role in the planned by Meg Ryan film Fan Girl , to which they will also contribute a song on the soundtrack. The film was released in June 2015 and contains performances by the musicians as well as scenes from Straight to DVD .
