history

Foundation and first publication

Tonight Alive was founded in 2008 by rhythm guitarist Jake Hardy and bassist Cameron Adler in Sydney , New South Wales , Australia . Both played in a band before, in which they covered well-known pieces. Through distant acquaintances, Whakaio Taahi was won over as a second guitarist and keyboardist , another musician for the band.

Singer Jenna McDougall and Cameron Adler have worked together before. He produced her solo demo. After completing the recording, he showed her a piece of his band and asked her to record the vocal tracks. On May 31, 2008, the day before her sixteenth birthday, McDougall officially joined the as yet unnamed group. The group made their first appearances on a local level without owning a band name. The current band name Tonight Alive came about through brainstorming.

A year after the band was founded, a drummer , Matt Best, joined the band. Best was a school friend of Taahi and became aware of the group through his mother. In the same year the band moved into a studio to record their first EP with the two producers Greg Stace and Dave Petrovic. This is called All Shapes & Disguises and was published in June 2010. McDougall was still attending school at the time. In November the group released a second three-song EP, Consider This . Shortly thereafter, the group toured nationally for the first time, as opening act for Sienna Skies .

What Are You So Scared Of?

In 2011 the group was signed by Sony Music Australia and Fearless Records exclusively for the North American market.

The group flew to Los Angeles and began recording their debut album with producer Nick Trombino . For the album, the songs To Die For and Thank You & Goodnight were re-recorded from the EPs. The latter song includes vocal parts from Mark Hoppus . On November 14, 2011, the debut album called What Are You So Scared Of? initially released in Australia , where it entered the national album charts at number 15. Due to the fact that it was signed with Fearless Records later, the album wasn't released in North America until four months later. A new version of the EP Consider This was released via Fearless Records . The first edition of the EP sold around 20,000 times.

In April 2011 the group played on the Bamboozle in New Jersey . At the end of 2011 the band played as an opener for Blessthefall , Motionless in White , The Word Alive and Chunk! No, Captain Chunk! through North America. At the beginning of 2012, the group should complete a tour with Go Radio , as well as perform on the SXSW . However, the performances were canceled due to a medical emergency within the band. In February 2012, the group toured the UK with Polar and Young Guns . In the summer the group completed the entire Warped Tour . In September and October 2012, the group played their first small European tour as headliners. Three days later, the group embarked on a North American tour for Pierce the Veil . This tour was part of the Collide with the Sky World Tour .

The other side

After the group released a stand-alone single called Breakdown on March 12, 2013 , the group went to the studio in Coffs Harbor to work on their second album. This is called The Other Side and was released on September 6, 2013 via Sony Music and Fearless Records . The album was announced at the same time as the premiere of the single The Ocean on UK radio on July 11, 2013. The Other Side debuted at number 5 in Australia and topped the official charts in both the United States and the United Kingdom .

The group spent the summer of 2013 on the Warped Tour again . The group also performed on the Australian version of the festival tour. In October and November 2013 the group starred with The Downtown Fiction and Echosmith in the United States . Tonight Alive's first tour of 2014 was with All Time Low in the UK. Concert tours with Taking Back Sunday , You Me at Six and Mayday Parade followed .

Limitless

In March 2015, the group went into the studio with producer Dave Bendeth to work on the third studio album. The work was finished in July. On October 30th, 2015 the new album was announced for March 4th, 2016. The record is called Limitless .

In April and May 2015 the group played with Issues , State Champs and All Time Low on the Future Hearts Tour through North America. Between January 17th and 29th, 2016, the group performed their first three concerts at national level, followed by a European tour with Our Last Night . Tonight Alive toured North America with Set It Off as co-headliners in March and April . The tour was accompanied by The Ready Set and the singer-songwriter SayWeCanFly . A US and a European tour will follow in summer 2016.
